Adra has been using TA in counseling, theraoy, and workshops for over 40 years. He has conducted workshops for public organizations, including drug education programs and teachers, as well as for pastoral care organizations and churches. For additional reading and understanding of TA, Adra recommends reading “TA Today, A New Introduction To Transactional Analysis”, by Ian Stewart and Vann Joines, Lifespace Publishing, Nottingham, England, and Chapel Hill, North Carolina 1987. While working as a church pastor, he received extensive clinical training in TA Redecision Therapy at Western Institute For Group and Family Therapy, Carmel, California under Bob and Mary Goulding. He also received continued extensive clinical training at Eastern Institute For Group and Family Therapy in Boston, Massachusetts, under Schulamet Peck. In recent years he received continued training through TA Webinar’s occasionally offered by Southeast Institute For Group and Family Therapy, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He lives in Owls Head, Maine with his wife of 58 years, Nancy. Nancy is an artist, has a studio in their home and sells her stilllife, portraits, and landscapes on her website “https:nancylovleyfineart.com”. They share a yellow lab, Molly, and have two older sons. They live near the ocean and share many walks on the long sandy beach only a five minute walk from their home. Jesus is the center of their relationship, work, and daily walks.

Hunger For Experiencing Him As Love

I find myself in my walks frequently saying to the Lord, “I love experiencing You as Love and I love be loved by You”. I often go on to say, “Your love is so amazingly unconditional and therefore without any expectations, yet with great expectancy how I will be changed as I embrace You, the supernatural presence and guidance of perfect Love”.

It is this unconditional and consistent love that I had been looking for in human beings, and never experiencing it. Through consistently experiencing Him unconditional love, He has been changing and renewing my mind (Romans 12:2) to understand that human beings will always be conditional in our love due to our sIn (capital “I” for self-centered) nature with which we were born in this world.

I now know that I will never be able to provide unconditional love unless I consistently refuse, with each new situation, to follow my own heart of expectations. Only in seeking and following the supernatural presence and guidance of His heart in each situation can I be saved from myself and express unconditional love to anyone. This is great news!!! It delivers me from performance orientation “to pretend that I am someone that I am not” and from the condemning “should’s” of my self-accusation, and more than willing accusation and judgment of others.

Following my own heart, rather than seeking His, leads me away from a close relationship with Him. In following my own heart, I will not lose His love, but I will lose the close and intimate relationship that I currently treasure with Him. The consequences of my free will to choose which heart I will follow is a natural law and described as “what you sow, you will also reap”.

My prayer, dear reader, is that our hunger to experience Him as Love will grow, and grow, and grow with each new day.
