Adra has been using TA in counseling, theraoy, and workshops for over 40 years. He has conducted workshops for public organizations, including drug education programs and teachers, as well as for pastoral care organizations and churches. For additional reading and understanding of TA, Adra recommends reading “TA Today, A New Introduction To Transactional Analysis”, by Ian Stewart and Vann Joines, Lifespace Publishing, Nottingham, England, and Chapel Hill, North Carolina 1987. While working as a church pastor, he received extensive clinical training in TA Redecision Therapy at Western Institute For Group and Family Therapy, Carmel, California under Bob and Mary Goulding. He also received continued extensive clinical training at Eastern Institute For Group and Family Therapy in Boston, Massachusetts, under Schulamet Peck. In recent years he received continued training through TA Webinar’s occasionally offered by Southeast Institute For Group and Family Therapy, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He lives in Owls Head, Maine with his wife of 58 years, Nancy. Nancy is an artist, has a studio in their home and sells her stilllife, portraits, and landscapes on her website “https:nancylovleyfineart.com”. They share a yellow lab, Molly, and have two older sons. They live near the ocean and share many walks on the long sandy beach only a five minute walk from their home. Jesus is the center of their relationship, work, and daily walks.

The Hunger To Experience Him As Patience

In my walk today I told the Lord, “I love experiencing You as Patience”. I went on to say how, as Patience, He allows me to learn by my mistakes and to learn at my own pace. How amazing that the Creator of the universe would allow me to learn at my own pace (which I consider to be very slow) and by my mistakes (which I consider more frequent than I want them to be).

I also went on to talk with Him about how grateful I am that He has made known something very important to me. It is that He actually celebrates each new insight with me that I gain from experiencing Him as patience. How personal and amazing is it that the God of creation would take the time to celebrate new insights with me!!!

One of the most meaningful things I experience is the Lord celebrating with me how to let go of the many, many regrets of the past, painful memories, and how to let go of the many worries or concerns about the future. I say to Him, with each new day, that “I again let go of the regrets of the past, painful memories, and the worries or concerns about the future”, I begin to welcome and actually feel His presence as supernatural Rest. In those minutes His supernatural rest it is like time no longer matters, and regrets fall away, as well as, worries about the future.

In experiencing Him as Rest I am reminded of Jesus’ words, “Come unto Me all you who are weary and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble of heart and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:29-30)

It is in returning each day to experience Him as Patience and Rest that I am empowered anew to face whatever comes my way.

My prayer is that His peace and rest will become part of your everyday journey, as well.
