Adra has been using TA in counseling, theraoy, and workshops for over 40 years. He has conducted workshops for public organizations, including drug education programs and teachers, as well as for pastoral care organizations and churches. For additional reading and understanding of TA, Adra recommends reading “TA Today, A New Introduction To Transactional Analysis”, by Ian Stewart and Vann Joines, Lifespace Publishing, Nottingham, England, and Chapel Hill, North Carolina 1987. While working as a church pastor, he received extensive clinical training in TA Redecision Therapy at Western Institute For Group and Family Therapy, Carmel, California under Bob and Mary Goulding. He also received continued extensive clinical training at Eastern Institute For Group and Family Therapy in Boston, Massachusetts, under Schulamet Peck. In recent years he received continued training through TA Webinar’s occasionally offered by Southeast Institute For Group and Family Therapy, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He lives in Owls Head, Maine with his wife of 58 years, Nancy. Nancy is an artist, has a studio in their home and sells her stilllife, portraits, and landscapes on her website “https:nancylovleyfineart.com”. They share a yellow lab, Molly, and have two older sons. They live near the ocean and share many walks on the long sandy beach only a five minute walk from their home. Jesus is the center of their relationship, work, and daily walks.

THE HUNGER FOR EXPERIENCING THE LORD AS DISCERNMENT

I talked with the Lord today about His being Discernment. I shared that as I experience new insight I know that He alone is the source. I shared that each new insight comes from His supernatural presence and guidance wanting me to know myself and know Him more and more intimately. 

I talked with Him about experiencing Him as Discernment. I shared that when He comes to me as Discernment I am able to clearly understand the difference between several things;

First, the presence of my flesh and its desires, which is most often very strong:

Secondly, the presence of the flesh and desires of others, which is also naturally also strong;

Thirdly, the supernatural presence of Satan, as an angel of light, wanting us both, even as husband and wife, to follow our flesh and its desires for choices that we make;

And fourthly, the supernatural presence of the Lord, as Holy Spirit, wanting neither of us to follow our flesh and its desires, because of our natural “sIn, or self-centered nature”. He, instead, desires to direct us to follow His heart and voice protecting us from our natural self-centered nature.

I shared how, when His supernatural presence and guidance leads me, I am able to see Satan wanting to pull together the presence of my flesh and its desires with the flesh and the presence and desires of my wife. I also shared how His supernatural presence of Discernment comes to protect both of us.

I went on to think about how when as a husband, experiencing Him as Discernment was laid aside several times. I wanted to go in a certain direction and my wife did not. I went on to remember how my insisting on my choice led to unnecessary pain and hardship for our entire family. I thanked Him for his incredible forgiveness as my eyes filled with tears, a forgiveness which is ever fresh, once again

I told the Lord, again today, that I am so very, very grateful that He comes to us as Discernment again, and again, in order to protect us. How amazing that the God and Creator of the universe, along with His Son Jesus, and the supernatural presence and guidance of the Holy Spirit express Their love in this wonderful way.
